Frequently asked questions

The Job Seeker Visa is designed for non-EU, non-EEA, and non-Swiss citizens who wish to temporarily reside in Portugal while looking for employment. This visa allows you to stay legally in the country for a specific period with the aim of securing a job offer that may lead to a residence permit as an employed worker.

No prior investment or job contract is required. However, you must demonstrate that you have sufficient financial means to support yourself throughout your stay in Portugal without relying on public assistance. This includes:

  • Proof of sufficient funds for your living expenses

  • Proof of accommodation in Portugal

  • Valid travel health insurance for the entire stay

The required amount typically depends on the Portuguese monthly minimum wage, multiplied by the number of months authorized for your stay.

You must submit your application at the Portuguese consulate or embassy in your country of origin or in the country where you have legal residency. Once the visa is approved and issued, you must travel to Portugal and schedule an appointment with SEF (Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras) to formalize your temporary residence permit.

To apply for this visa, the following documents are generally required:

  • Valid passport

  • Proof of sufficient financial means to cover your entire stay

  • Proof of accommodation in Portugal (hotel reservation, rental agreement, invitation letter, etc.)

  • Valid health insurance covering your entire stay

  • Criminal record certificate from your country of origin and from any country where you’ve resided for more than one year

  • Completed visa application form

The consular authorities may request additional documents depending on your individual case.

Processing times vary by consulate, but typically range from 60 to 90 days. Once you arrive in Portugal, you must book an appointment with SEF to obtain your residence card.

Yes, this visa allows for family reunification. Once you obtain your residence permit, your spouse and dependent children may apply for residence in Portugal as family members of the primary visa holder, provided you meet the financial requirements and submit the necessary documentation for each family member.

You can legally live in Portugal as soon as you enter the country with your Job Seeker Visa. However, you are not allowed to work until you receive a formal job offer and change your residence status to a work permit. In the meantime, you may travel within the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

We can't thank Alex, Agustina, and Sofia enough for all their help obtaining our visas and our apartment. The entire process was daunting, but they walked us through step-by-step. We had a lot of questions but they were so incredibly kind and patient. ¡Muchas gracias!

I am now a spanish resident on the digital nomad visa thanks to Vera, Carolina and Pilar from Carbray. Vera and Carolina were incredibly supportive in helping me get together the documents I needed, meticulously spotting missing signatures and communicating clearly throughout the entire process. Pilar supported with my successful application for Beckham's law. Due to a misunderstanding in how long I had to apply, she took this on very last minute and even spoke on the phone spanish officials at one of my appointments to make it happen in time. I would definitely recommend. Thanks all 🧡

Carbray International has been extremely helpful in helping us obtain residency in Spain and getting our Spanish passports. The process would have been much more difficult (and possibly impossible) without their guidance. We cannot thank them enough for their guidance and patience throughout the process. I highly recommend partnering with them and tapping into their services. A special thank you and shout out to Alex Parfen and Sofia Grondona of the Carbray International team!
